The end of the D.A.C.A. program; a government issued program that only gave legal permission to hard working young adults, who where forcefully brought into the U.S illegally, is nothing but counterintuitive. Your losing millions of intelligent hard working individuals who have done nothing but help the U.S.

#DACA recipients- brought here as children, had no say in the matter of if they wanted to come in legally or not. They pay taxes, DACA fees, serve in the military – and much more. Don’t spout ignorance. Please stay tolerant and understanding.

There are posts going around showing airlines charging several thousands of dollars for one-way tickets out of Florida and I just want to clear some things up. This was spread around yesterday and is NOT the price the airlines are charging. The image that was spread from Delta was from a third party website and the person who originally posted this image has come out and said everything has been cleared up. I even heard this story on the radio coming home from school so just to clarify:

• JetBlue is reducing their fares. Remaining seats will be between $99 – $159. 
• American Airlines is capping the prices at $99. This is for standard cabin fare and means that prices will not exceed this cost. 
• Delta is capping their prices at $399. This also means that prices will not exceed this cost, however this also includes first class so standard prices will be lower than $399.

Airlines like American and Delta have also added flights and brought in larger planes and waived change fees for passengers who need to cancel or rebook their flights. 

If you still need to get out or were worried about these prices then I hope this clears everything up. Note that flights will start cancelling once it becomes too dangerous for planes to fly so make sure to call ahead and keep checking for updates at your airport.

thesis statement: modern fantasy is indebted to the Victorian view of the Middle Ages and is as much a continuation of that view as a reaction to it

pls tell us about victorian medievalism ( + fantasy), this is highly relevant to my interests

So what I’m reading right now is Beyond Arthurian Romances: The Reach of Victorian Medievalism, which is a very good collection of essays. The main idea is that Victorians tended to idealize the Middle Ages, especially as an age of faith, but also as an age of heroism. There are two essays on William Morris, whom Tolkien read and whom I’d include among the founders of modern (heroic) fantasy. The first is on Sigurd the Volsung, which is a verse epic based on the Sagas, and it’s definitely about the Middle Ages being a time of epic in contrast to the capitalist, degenerate 19th century. 

Another point is the sanitizing of the Middle Ages; this is where the reaction to the Victorian view comes in. The kind of modern fantasy that thinks it’s being realistically medieval by having dirt and murder and rape is reacting to the “purified” Victorian Middle Ages, but it’s still taking part in the view of the Middle Ages as age of heroes – as opposed to the modern world, where there’s no room to be heroic. 

Both views, the gritty and the sanctified, simplify the Middle Ages, of course; most fantasy tends to try to write a medieval world without the Church or else don’t sincerely believe in their characters’ belief. And Victorians made the Christianity of the Middle Ages the same as Victorian Christianity. 

But in any case, when people write “realistic medieval fantasy,” they’re demystifying the Middle Ages they grew up with, which is still, to some extent, the Middle Ages of Disney (See the book The Disney Middle Ages), which is definitely a derivative of the Victorian view. 

Obviously, it’s hard to get back to what the Middle Ages really were, but it’s not just dirt and grit, and it’s not just knights and ladies; right now we’re on the dirt and grit side of the pendulum, but it’s more like putting dirt on the pretty Victorian paintings of knights and ladies than getting back to primary sources.

this website pisses me off, everyones always like “space is so cool!” not its not, space is bullshit and i hate everything about it, i genuinely just saw the phrase “a black hole with a mass two billion times the mass of the sun” im so pissed off, shut the fuck up, dont patronise me scientists you know i dont know what the fuck that means, my sad little brain cant comprehend the mass of one sun let alone two fucking billion, i cant even count past 10 without getting confused and youre out here talking about the mass of two billion fucking suns, shut the hell up. and dont even get me started about black holes or the expansion of the universe because thats another two seperate rants entierly. oh and apparently theres a planet made of ice except the ice is also on fire??? yeah sure fucking thing, scientists. and this is just the shit i know about. i purposely dont research space because it pisses me off so much, god knows what other fucking bullshit exists out there that ive yet to read a fucking wikipedia article about. i dont think space is real, literally everything about space is so fucking fake, this is just some elaborate fucking practicle joke. two billion times the mass of the sun, fuck you
