DEADPOOL TRIGGER WARNING (no spoilers)
TW: rape mention, incest, molestation, possible child sexual abuse references, emetophobia, gore/blood
So right off the bat, I should point out that this movie definitely includes gore (this isn’t your typical hero movie), and I think once or twice there is a semi blurred scene that requires an emetophobia warning.
Now I’ve seen posts saying there’s rape jokes, and posts saying “no there isn’t”. The ones claiming there are not jokes had me thinking that odds are, the jokes were not overt/obvious enough to be considered rape jokes, but likely still were, and so people not sensitive to those issues weren’t caring about the jokes made.
There is a conversation in a bar in the first 1/3 of the movie, where a man and a woman are discussing who has the worst background, including mentions of both being molested by uncles etc.
While it’s not 100% certain if they were joking or telling what actually happened, it was said in a joking/flippant manner, which might be triggering especially if the audience is laughing along with the discussion.
There is also a point where someone brings up possible coercive rape/date rape in saying that they pity the person who tries to pressure a particular girl on prom night. This comment is said in a way which implies that the butt of the joke is the attempted attacker, who would never get anything, because he’d instead have his ass handed to him. The topic of pressured sex (which is rape) is a sensitive one, and so while the potential victim is not the butt of the joke, it could still upset someone.
At another point, two people are talking, and one looks very creepy. The other implies that the creepy man would probably like kidnapping children in panel vans, and later mentions that he is less than 500 meters from a school, and should probably stay away, which pretty much implies that he’s calling the guy a pedophile. While these statements are meant to be rude/sarcastic/just an insult, they can still be upsetting.
Finally, a girl has her ass grabbed without permission, and in turn, ends up grabbing the (assumed) man’s genitals through his pants in a painful manner to punish him. In fact I think at least one other time someone’s genitals are grabbed in a painful manner, and several times they are punched or kicked.
Oh, and this isn’t so much a trigger warning as a heads up, but there’s some extended sex scenes, sexual references, and 100% naked strippers in this movie, so like, maybe don’t go with family? Better I tell you now than you find out halfway through and do that awkward thing where you pretend you’re invisible and simultaneously FASCINATED by popcorn until the scenes end. We’ve all been there, and it’s just not fun.
If i’ve left anything out (since it’s been several hours since I saw it for the first time) please feel free to add, but this is what I recall so far. Otherwise I really enjoyed the movie, had a blast, laughed a lot, and would see it again!
You know what sucks? I can totally handle the jokes. But the sex scenes means I can’t go see it.
This is the first time I heard of the sex scenes, so thank you for mentioning it. Last time I saw a movie in theaters with sex scenes, I was completely out of it for over a week.
This is the best post of this variety I’ve seen. I saw the movie Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it, but these things are definitely in it so take care if you are sensitive to them! In addition, it’s jokingly implied that a female character is trans due to her strength.
Stay safe lovelies!I loved the film and thought it was amazing! However I do think one of the good things about Tumblr is spoiler free warnings about these things, and things for strobes too. Since I know some people out there will find these things upsetting, or need to know before hand so they can be prepared for it mentally.
Since I know controlled exposure can be helpful, so it is good to know what to expect beforehand to keep people safe. So I am happy to spread the word about these things to make sure people stay safe. I know strobe warnings have been so useful for me in the past.
hey i know a few mutuals on my dash reblogged that original post about the rape jokes in it, expressing unhappiness in the tags, here’s some more info
I can’t remember who you all were or I’d tag you!
here this one has context which may be helpful for some
on a more subjective note i have heard mixed things about this movie relating to sense of humour in general so it might be somewhat of a Marmite movie
Rebageling this for anyone considering going to see the movie
