West Virginia teachers just shut down the ENTIRE STATES SCHOOLS.

They went on strike.

They worked with churches, community centers, and food banks to make sure that students who rely on school to be a safe place or for a meal will still be able to get them.

They are one of the lowest funded states for education. Many teachers working retail and food service on the weekends.

They can’t properly make lesson plans when they can’t feed their own children.

They can’t teach all day to kids after working all night to pay bills.

They can’t watch their students education suffer because they are not being paid enough to live.

They are demanding better funding to schools.

They are demanding pay raises.

They are demanding better health benefits.

They are demanding the safety of their students.

Students in multiple counties led a support system for their teachers. Wearing purple to support them and hyping up social media.

the assassination of franz ferdinand was actually the most hilariously botched assassination attempt of all time though like i can’t even explain to you how badly it went i mean there were six guys and the first one chickened out and the second one forgot to factor in the delay on a hand grenade so it exploded like three cars past the archduke’s so the guy took a cyanide pill and threw himself into a river, but the cyanide was expired and the river was six inches deep so the police just pulled him out and took him off to jail and then everyone else basically gave up and headed home, and then the driver of the archduke took a wrong turn and the car stalled next to the last of the six guys, and he was just like “what a crazy random happenstance” and started world war one

You forgot to mention that the last guy only happened to kill Franz because he had just come out of the sandwich shop where the car stopped

It is obvious to even the most casual observer that this particular event has been meddled with by at least two groups of time travelers trying to change history.  Please, if you invent a time machine, leave the assassination of Ferdinand alone; the space-time continuum there is already showing obvious cracks from the strain.

Striking ain’t easy but we’ve all gotta do it

As you may know, all public schools in the entire state of West Virginia are closed due to a teachers strike. As you may not know, those teachers have a fund going to keep them up and running while the strike is ongoing. You can donate here to help support the fight, and hopefully help inspire others to follow and take back control of our own goddamn lives.

Schools threaten to punish students who join walkouts over gun control

When you have to use the original meme to get a point across

Walk out. There is no such thing as a permanent record, but there is such a thing as ‘the entire administration gets sued and fired’.

I want to add again that schools are allowed to punish you for missing class to protest, but it has to be the standard punishment for missing class (as though you were missing for any other reason). If they would not normally suspend you for 3 days for missing class, then they cannot do it for this. It is a violation of your first amendment rights to punish you more harshly for protesting than for any other reason for an absence from class.  [source – ACLU

If your school is threatening you with a punishment that is beyond what would normally be given for an unexcused class absence, you should contact your local ACLU chapter. You should be able to find the standard disciplinary actions for excused and unexcused absences in your student handbook; if the punishment for protesting is different from the punishment listed in the handbook, then you need to contact that ACLU. You can find your local ACLU chapter by clicking here.
